About the project

Background information

Ultimo february two digital designers - Simon Svankjær Morel and Henrik Søndergaard Andersen - arrived in Colombia for a four month study. The vision and objective was to identify digital design opportunities in a foreign country which we had limited knowledge about. The objective was to narrow the design space and find a situation where we saw a opportunity to make a difference in regards of our competencies as digital designers.

Sustainable Archtecture in Barichara

This project takes place in the town of Barichara, which is famous for its traditional and beautiful architecture. However, the original building methods and hence the architecture is fading as the city is growing. Thus, a group of architects are trying to protect and raise awareness of why sustainable architecture is important for Barichara and the world. One way to progress in this direction is to teach children about sustainable architecture. These architects work in particular with sustainable building techniques and architecture by creating workshops for children, and making them reflect critically on materials, consequences and processes of construction and architecture. Within this setting, this project concerns how we can use design- and ethnographic fieldwork methods to understand the situation, and hereby develop a suggestion to how technology can be used in the best way to support the children's learning- and reflection on sustainability and architecture.
